Oliver Smith - Horizons / Restless [Anjunabeats]

With all of the originals and remixes he’s been turning out in recent times you could be forgiven for wondering whether or not Olie Smith has ever got round to fully unpacking his suitcases from Amsterdam! Either way this latest two-tracker sees him very much at the peak of his powers and whilst opener ‘Horizons’ bucks the recent trend of having a cloud formation for a name it certainly feels as if it came into being on the back of a lingering gaze towards the stratosphere, with its deep, laid-back groove and stirring melody effortlessly balanced alongside the drifting, floating interludes on show.

Turn over and B-side ‘Restless’ appears to be rather keen to be let off the leash as Olie injects a little more energy into proceedings, creating a vibrant and breezy mix of playful melodies, gliding choral vocals and grandiose sweeping synths kept firmly in place by the crisp, clean production values that have been the hallmark of his previous works. And with gems like these, we can only hope that Olie continues to find the sky a source of much musical inspiration for a long time to come!

To complete this fantastic package we have a red hot remix from Signalrunners who deliver a red hot version of 'Restless'.
